ANTIFA: What to Know about America's New Terror Group

ANTIFA is a far-left anarchist group whose mission is to create chaos and disruption at any event they deem “fascist.”  They have a penchant for disturbing any gathering, event, or speaking engagement that they deem "far-right" or supportive of President Donald Trump. ANTIFA is composed of many different groups and is not a central unit. Many work off of websites such as www.itsgoingdown.org which offers advice for various chapters which are in most major U.S. cities.  It is believed that many are financed by George Soros under the guise of “philanthropy” through grants given from one of his many Open Society Foundation groups.

WHO ARE THEY?

ANTIFA members are encouraged to remain anonymous, which is why they are often filmed dressed in black with masks covering their faces. They appeal to young men and women in their older teens and twenties and are recruited via advertising meetings on college campuses.  ANTIFA organizers prefer the use of Twitter, as it is easier to remain anonymous. According to organizer, Scott Crow, they are the ones who decide what speech is protected under the first amendment:

“...hate speech is not free speech. That if you are endangering people with what you say and the actions that are behind them, then you do not have the right to do that. And so we go to cause conflict, to shut them down where they are, because we don't believe that Nazis or fascists of any stripe should have a mouthpiece."

ARE THEY VIOLENT?

People who speak for the Antifa movement acknowledge they sometimes carry clubs and sticks," and their "approach is confrontational.”  They sponsor fight seminars and martial art training and encourage their members to carry weapons to events.  One ANTIFA wbesite states:

“Find out what the laws are in your city and state about a variety of self-defense weapons and make sure to practice with, and carry, everything that is legal— whether that is pepper spray, retractable clubs, or other devices. In some cases, what is legal to carry for self-defense is considered assault with a weapon if used in an offensive capacity.Laws vary community by community and ideally a lawyer should be consulted regarding this.”

DOXXING

Doxxing is the illegal practice of targeting an individual, harvesting information, and broadcasting that information in a public way in attempt to embarrass and harrass that person. An ANTIFA website encourages its members to post:

“a picture, home address, phone number, social media profiles, and employment information. Be sure to include organizational affiliations and screenshots showing concrete evidence of racist and fascist views. Follow up the doxx with a pressure campaign: call their work and try to get them fired, and inform their neighbors through flyering or door-to-door campaigns.”

ARE THEY ANTI-POLICE?

ANTIFA websites encourage cells to build a “culture of non-cooperation with law enforcement” telling their members that “The cops will be Trump supporters; do not collaborate with them.”  There have been numerous incidents of ANTIFA members throwing bodily waste, rocks, bricks, and other projectiles at police officers.
