Lanterns: Fast and Furious Triggerman Arrested in Mexico

Fast and Furious Triggerman Arrested in Mexico

The suspect accused of the 2010 murder of Border Patrol Agent, Brian Terry was apprehended in Mexico on Wednesday.  Drug cartel member, Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes, was captured at a Mexican ranch by a joint law-enforcement effort between the United States and Mexico. American authorities have said they will seek his extradition.

Brian Terry was killed on Dec. 14, 2010, in a gunfight between Border Patrol agents and members of a five-man cartel crew which regularly patrolled the U.S.-Mexico border tasked to steal from low-level drug dealers.

The gun used was provided by the United States government in the so-called "Fast and Furious" scandal that plagued the Obama Administration.  The federal government allowed criminals to buy guns with the plan of tracking them once they were in Mexico.  The Agency of Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) lost track of more than 1,400 of the 2,000 guns they allowed criminals to purchase. Two of those weapons were found at the scene of Terry’s murder setting off a political scandal that saw Attorney General Eric Holder charged with contempt for withholding documents from Congress during the investigation.
