Each year, many Americans make New Years resolutions ranging from losing weight to finding a new job to starting a family. Here, I will share a few non-political suggestions that Americans work on in order to help ensure the country's future.
- Imagine an America where Christians and Jews are leaders by example in society. We have many “leaders” who talk a great game. We have those that refer to the Gospel and advise others on the best way to live. But we, however need to become the generation that is not just defined by words, but by actions. Let us make 2017 the year that this happens.
- I also believe it is critical we must take back certain narratives from politics of both sides. Neither side in politics owns any narrative. As an example, what comes to mind when you think of love and loving one another? Do you think it possible some will think "loving one another" refers to the love of the 60s and hippy generation? That is very possible indeed. Others will associate "loving one another" to Christ and his call for how we should treat each other all the time. Both of these associations of love are valid. Americans must remember that no particular group has ownership over a narrative.
- Lastly, we must redefine the American Dream. As of late, many people think this dream is about #winning, money and how much material things you own. That is only a recent opinion. Historically, people (myself being one of them) seek an American dream that is based upon the concepts of freedom, opportunity, and wanting to live in a country where, no matter the size of your dream, you can actually achieve it. We cannot forget that America’s history is that of making the impossible, possible!
Will abiding by the above suggestions this fix everything? Absolutely not. Of course, there are many more resolutions and actions need to make America an exceptional nation again, but I believe this is a good place to start and can be discussed by those on the left, right and in the middle.
What resolutions do you think America should follow to make it prosper like never before?
