Lanterns: This is different.

Blog

This is different.

Greetings; as you may have noticed, I have not posted an article here for a while and I have an explanation for that. My oldest son has Autism and my wife is his caregiver. He needs help with certain things and since she helps him and has to focus on him, it makes it hard for her to work so the state pays. He is her client. In March of this year, the state decided that our son is self-directing, which he is not. We even had a letter from his neurologist, who specializes in Autism. The case worker said the letter means nothing and during the hearing the judge agreed. They took away over ninety percent of his hours. Those hours also paid the rent and bills. We got behind on rent and in April we got a sixty day notice. We have now been homeless since June first. We have no money as we spent it all for motel rooms. We have even spent a few nights sleeping in our van parked in parking lot.

We did see another homeless family with a child with deformed legs and got around using a wheelchair. Right now we are in another motel because our church helped us out by paying for a motel room for the weekend. On Monday, we hope to get another few days of vouchers. I don't know what we will do after that. I am a handicapped man. I got that way by running in front of a car to save the life of my youngest son. We have reached out to multiple places who claim they help homeless families but they don't. I thought having a special needs child as well as myself being handicapped would make it easy to get help. Man was I wrong. I ask that you pray for my family so we may find a place to live and my kids can feel safe again. Thank you for your time and God bless you..... BK.
