PRESIDENT TRUMP TO FBI DIRECTOR COMEY "YOU'RE FIRED"

Trump says “you’re fired” to James Comey. Sean Spicer confirmed this during today’s daily press briefing at the White House.

Statement from the Press Secretary:

“The president has accepted the recommendation of the Attorney General and the deputy Attorney General regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” he said. (We’ll have video shortly.)

This is a breaking story and I will be updating this story as soon as the details of how it went down are made public.

One thing is for sure, James Comey is out as FBI Director. He was apparently fired by President Trump on the recommendation of Attorney Jeff Sessions.

This is what we know so far:

Statement from the White House:

It was just made public about 45 minutes ago that President Trump informed the FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office. According to letters submitted to Comey from the White House; President Trump acted on the clear recommendation of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In Trump's letter to Comey, the president said: "It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission."

Three senior FBI and Department of Justice officials told NBC News that they had no warning or advance knowledge of Comey's dismissal. Some of the officials that spoke with NBC know Comey personally.

In a Tuesday statement, the press secretary said the president "terminated and removed" Comey from office effective immediately "based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions."

Sessions told Trump in a letter that he believes "a fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI.”

“The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.

The White House said its search for Comey's successor begins immediately. The news hit Twitter almost immediately and is all the talk on twitter and Facebook. More to come.
