Billy Joel is scheduled to play in St. Louis, tonight!
I love his song, “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” I remember trying to memorize the 119 events of world history, politics, foreign affairs, pop stars, news, and sports that he listed in it. It’s a song of the times and still is. From Truman dropping the bombs during WWII, he listed additional events as the takeover of Communism in China, Joe McCarthy and his hunt for communists, Marilyn Monro, and Roy Campanella winning the MVP as an African American catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and so much more. He listed all the things that happened in his life.
Imagine if he added more to it. This list could include 9-11, Benghazi, Katrina, Hillary’s emails, Trump, and Ferguson. However, I do not believe he would put Lamar Smith’s name in his song. Why? Because his case is irrelevant. The Obama administration looked into it and DID NOT pursue Civil Rights infringements. What does this tell you?
However, some groups are trying to use cases like this one to push their own agendas, pointing to these shootings as some type “smoking gun” that proves that black men are being targeted by the police.
People are protesting again in St. Louis. Has there been violence? Yes. Have there been arrests? Yes.
However, when you look at the crowds there are signs that represent every political position of discontent that exists. Many young people who are apparently working on their “Social Justice Degrees,” as well as a few church groups are there. There were crowds, but for what? I have seen signs about President Trump, the targeting of black men by the police, Syria, DACA and many other issues. There are so many groups piggy-backing this case that it’s hard to keep up. They are like unwanted party guests to the few BLM people who are there.
Think about it, all across America people are shaking their heads— all types and races of people. Folks are tired and are helping other people get through the hard times. Natural disasters and devastation are around every corner— Houston, Florida, Mexico, and this morning, Puerto Rico. These protests are old news.
Apparently, even the protestors are tired. The numbers just aren't there. Don't get me wrong, these groups stop traffic and are keeping the police on their toes. They are riding the edge of having the National Guard step in. A police officer is home because her jaw was broken after a peaceful protestor tossed a brick at her. Other protestors stopped traffic last night in Brentwood, Missouri, but they were peaceful. They walked away when told to.
When America is dealing with such other problems it makes people annoyed to have groups exploit any and all problems to promote their movement du jour. People just aren't engaging in this kind of thing anymore. These groups are disingenuous and the general public knows it. This truth is crossing the political lines. Folks are waking up.
One local newsgroup, KSDK, even handled it differently than they did during Ferguson. This time, they decided TO DO THE NEWS, NOT BE THE NEWS. What a concept! If there is any violence, they will pull their people out. While they were going to cover all sides of the issue, they were not stopping general programming unless there was breaking news about the welfare and safety of people in the surrounding areas.
The first thing that the leaders in Lamar’s community shared just before the verdict was a threat. They actually told Judge Timothy Williams that if he did not comply there were be great violence and “Ferguson like behavior.” Judge Williams did not get to where he is because he bends to the will of the people. His thirty-page response was incredibly written. I am still reading it. People just aren't responding to threats anymore.
To those protesting, I ask, how many people did Lamar Smith kill after he sold them heroin? Given the heroin overdose statistics in Missouri being what they are, probably quite a few. Did their lives matter? Why don’t his victims’ lives matter to you?
Fear has been served up for years just like hor d’oeuvres and is a powerful and effective tool. People have been taught the Rules for Radicals to help divide the Nation, and it has worked, but we are on to them now and ultimately, these rules are not sustainable.
The new Mayor of St. Louis, Lyda Krewson, has set an apologetic tone that has disgusted everyone, including the protestors. She constantly talks about how terrible St. Louis is, and apologizes for it and the people. Interestingly, she canceled her townhalls because she said, “the streets are the town hall.”
Like the true Socialist mentality pulling everyone down, Mayor Krewson set aside a park for the protestors where people handed out milk and water. She wanted the protestors to be ready in case they were pepper sprayed. She denounced the police believing this would put her on the protestor’s good side. Ironically, not many showed up to the park. However, they did show up at her house to protest and throw stones and bricks through her windows.
And, just like Hillary, she is asking, “What Happened?”
It seems like we’re all asking this question as we watch the media, politicians, and social justice warriors fan the flames as they attempt to divide us and burn everything to the ground. We’re wise to their game. We didn’t start this fire, but I know that patriots like us, you and me, together, will be damned sure we’re going to put it out!
