The National Rifle Association’s CEO, Wayne LaPierre, took center stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference Friday afternoon. LaPierre fired up the crowd as he unloaded on leftists as “enemies.” The NRA’s top gun first took aim at Democratic protesters as well-paid criminals who enjoy wreaking havoc on the streets of America. “Many of these people hate everything America stands for,” declared LaPierre. “They’re angry. They’re militant, and they’re willing to engage in criminal violence to get what they want,” LaPierre said at the annual conference. “The Left’s message is absolutely clear,” LaPierre stated. “They want revenge. You’ve gotta be punished. They say you’re what’s wrong with America, and now you’ve gotta be purged.”
A continuing theme for many speakers this year has been to take the media to task, and LaPierre was no exception. He took it a step further and lumped the media with the paid agitators. “If you’re a member of the leftist media or a soldier for the violent left, hear this,” LaPierre said,” you’re not going to win, and you will not defeat us.”
“We face a national media machine that is not only biased almost entirely one-way, it also dumps gasoline on simple political disagreement to turn it into cultural IEDs. They dehumanize, they demonize us all by calling us every evil name in the book. And when the anger explodes, what do they do? They step back, catch it on video, replay it nonstop for ratings and outrage and more chaos tomorrow when you turn on your TV.”
LaPierre closed by reiterating the NRA’s support of President Donald Trump. The NRA offered its earliest endorsement to a Presidential candidate when they announced it at their annual convention last May. “Folks, the media said we were arranging deck chairs on the Titanic by backing Trump. But we’re still standing, and we’re still here, and we got President Trump’s back, for the next eight years.”
